The Apple rumor/fanboy sites — to be fair, even News.com, Slashdot and Wired can’t help themselves — have been frothing over the more fanciful possibilities of Tuesday’s Macworld Steve-note, but in their fervor they’ve seemingly forgotten that Apple marketing folks had promised to (but didn’t) deliver an update to QuickTime before the end of 2002. Obviously Steve put the kibosh on those plans, so look for QuickTime 6.1 (an update which will be able to create and play MPEG-4 content compatible with 3GPP-compliant devices) to be announced then.
Shortly after the keynote, PlaybackTime will feature a summary and analysis of the digital media announcements made by Apple at Macworld.
